Environmental :: Oceans & Seafood Canned Tuna Guide - Greenpeace Sirena’s tuna is caught with huge nets and Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs) that kill turtles, sharks and juvenile tuna. Commitment to sourcing sustainable tuna: Sirena has made no commitment to using sustainable tuna. The brand uses the overfished Yellowfin Tuna and Longtail Tuna due to dwindling stocks of Yellowfin. There are no stock assessments or conservation measures for Longtail Tuna. Traceability and labelling: Sirena does not label its cans with the tuna species name or provide the catch area or fishing method. Sirena can trace its product back to the fishing vessel. Support for marine reserves and equitable fishing: S: Sirena has not expressed public support for the establishment of marine reserves, nor does it have an equitable and sustainable sourcing policy. However, Sirena has expressed interest in investing in a sustainable fishing project, which is a great step in the right direction. Verdict: Sirena has many changes to make to provide consumers with an equitable sustainable product. For now it remains a bad choice for consumers who care about the ocean.
